We are moving forward in our referendum Field renovation project. In the months since September 2008, when a portion of the Field Referendum project was approved by voters, our district administrators and coaches, as well as representatives from the Borough of Butler, have been meeting regularly with our architect to plan the details of the renovations at Memorial and Hempstead Fields. Keep watching for updates and additional information.
Updates
- April 2010 Field Dedication. The Butler Board of Education and Butler Public Schools is proud to open the newly renovated Memorial & Hempsted Field. Media
- November 2009: The newly renovated track will be open to the public on or around March 1, 2010, depending on weather conditions.
We thank you for your patience as we take the necessary time and steps to ensure the newly-planted sod grass has time to properly take root. Under the close supervision of the coaching staff, only the Butler High School athletic teams will be using the track, between now and March. This very limited use will not signal the opening of the facility, and the track will be locked after each practice session concludes. Thank you for your patience.
The Butler Public School District Board of Education - The Field Referendum Dedication ceremony will be held in April 2010. Check back often for details!
- September 17, 2009. The roof of the refreshement stand is being built. A dedication ceremony will be planned for the future. Watch for more announcements.
- August 27, 2009. Sod and the new fences have been laid and the progress is smooth.
- August 2009 Our bleachers are installed! We are pleased with the continued progress and proud that the project is moving forward on a timely schedule.
- July 27, 2009 As of July 30, 2009 our Referendum Project continues to move forward. The project is on or very close to on schedule .... which is encouraging considering the amount of rainfall this summer. A visit to the site indicates that home bleacher footings and foundations have been completed and the installation of the bleacher frame structure is moving along very quickly. As far as the all-weather track, the installation of the necessary asphalt underlay has begun and will continue throughout this week. The fencing posts installation for the fencing along the track have also begun in the areas adjacent to the Memorial Field and the new track. The new access road has also been started and the Maintenance Garage has been demolished. The district is working with the borough on developing a new storage area and building.

- On Thursday, March 12, 2009, our project architectural firm, Parette Somjen [PSA], will be meeting with potential contractor bidders to review the project details and specifications during an on-site walk through. We anticipate that bids will be received from interested contractors and opened on April 1, 2009. After a brief period for attorney review of contractor bids and documents, we plan to hold a special BOE meeting for the purpose of awarding the project bid and selecting a contractor on Monday April 6, 2009. We further hope to begin renovations on the field sites by mid to late April, which was the timeframe anticipated in the referendum materials provided to the public last summer and through the early Fall prior to the successful September 30, 2009 vote.
