What are my options for Post-Secondary education?

Two-Year/Community College

Degree: Associates (A.A., A.S.) or Certificate

Benefits:

  • Save money with cheaper tuition
  • Boost your GPA to make yourself more marketable if you decide to transfer later on to a 4yr school
  • Figure out what you want to do
  • SAT/ACT not required (although there is still a placement test)

Cons:

  • Lose out on the “campus feel” and social aspect
  • Less job options compared to 4-year degree holders

 

Four-Year College or University

Degree: Bachelors (BA or BS)

Benefits:

  • On and off-campus learning opportunities (clubs, cultural events, performances, study abroad, guest lectures, internships, field trips, etc)
  • Well-rounded and flexible degree
  • Higher salaries down the road

Cons:

  • Much more costly than a 2-yr school

 

Vocational School

Degree: Certificate

Benefits:

  • Short-term and focused on a specific technical career

Cons:

  • Private, for-profit means much more costly
