Congratulations to Butler High School, Class of 2009 Alumni, James Lampmann who recently joined Major League Baseball’s Advanced Media Division as a member of their Replay Review Team. As a Replay Operator, Lampmann’s responsibilities include monitoring live games, flagging close plays that teams may challenge, and playing back video for the Replay Officials. MLB’s Instant Replay Review system, now in its third season, is designed to quickly and effectively review plays that have been challenged on the field to determine if the umpire’s call is confirmed, overturned, or stands.
After graduating from BHS, Lampmann earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Television Production from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. While attending Hofstra, Lampmann immersed himself in his area of study and joined the on-campus television network, HEAT (Hofstra Entertainment Access Television). He served as the producer of their Sports Beat program and in his senior year became HEAT General Manager, responsible for overseeing all network shows. Following graduation, Lampmann was hired by Comedy Central’s Short Form Production team in New York City. As a Production Manager, he worked alongside producers for Comedy Central promos, branded content, and commercials.
Lampmann recognized television production as career interest early on during his high school career, which led him to form the BHS Audio Visual Club. As a part of his passion, he devoted much of his time to videotaping school events and sports games as well as running the local access channel in Butler and Bloomingdale. Lampmann noted that he had a love for creative and hands-on subjects such as art and woodworking. While at BHS, he was a part of the AP program and is credited with taking AP courses in Calculus, Biology and English Literature.
Best wishes for a bright future to James!
